Tire Rack? Discount? NTB? *bleh*
Skyline with Toyo Proxes for your time.
Looking to buy some new shoes for the GTO when she gets out of the shop. Digging the TSW Bristol with a good set of all seasons. General As-03 or maybe BFgoodrich? Like to keep it as close to $200 a tire as I can.

Costco.

Past two times I went to Big-O. Not too happy with them as far as their installation prices.

I bought my last set of tires at the dealer. Their prices were exactly the same as Discount Tire and much less than Les Schwab. I basically told them what I wanted they ordered them and installed them during an oil change. I looked at tire rack and they would have bee $200 more because of shipping and installation. Moral is find what you want, then shop around for best price for both tire price and installation.

I had a good experience with Costco for our minivan; replaced a punctured tire spit spot with hazard protection.
They don’t have the exact tire I want for the S, so I guess Tire Rack with local installer again. Hazard protection is more of a hassle.

Yes. I punctured a sidewall a month after getting brand new tires, and they replaced it for free.

just got off the phone with big o for putting a dent in my hood after working on my PS pump. I guess they closed it with a tool sitting on the intake. nice.

Continental extremecontact DWS is a great all season, well priced and last long too.

I am currently sitting in a local tire shop in SLC, Tire World, getting a set of BF Goodrich Comp-2 A/S for our Fiesta ST. They had the best price in town, probably $10-40 cheaper than Tire Rack with shipping and install and with less hassle of having to order from Tire Rack and then make an appointment at a certified installed.
I do like Tire Rack when ordering wheels and tires combos, their prices are usually hard to beat on combos and I can just install them in the driveway or get the dealer to put them on during an oil change.

The first owner of my car took it somewhere to get a new battery. The idiots replaced the screws with ones that were too long. As a result, when they closed the hood, it pent one of the screws and left a ding on the hood.

I’ve always gone through discount and never had any issues. They’ve always been helpful and flexible on prices. Last year when I bought new tires for the cobalt they gave me like a 150 dollar discount and I still got a 60 dollar visa gift card for buying a set of 4

I usually use TireRack, and I highly recommend them. Discount tire direct is okay. I have my own installation machines at home, though... if you are near Boston you can have TireRack ship them straight to me so you don’t have to bring them over here. For $200 each I’m a big fan of MPSS, but they will not go in the snow, so don’t do it if you live in the north.

With a car that takes special shoes, always check the forums. They will tell you the best prices and place to get them. For a viper there is a guy named Jon that has the best deals since he supplies tire rack.

Only I am allowed to do that to my own car! Never put a dent in the hood but have done it. No reason someone like Big-O should be doing that, I assume their tools are much more organized than mine. Another assumption: You noticed the dent and had to call them about it? I would be shocked if they called you to report it.

Hey they fixed the car right man? What more do you want, body work? Psh.

You two are like the 5th and 6th guys to talk about Costco. I guess maybe I should call them and get a quote.

My local GM dealer doesn’t even remember what a GTO is.

It’s not just that they have good prices, but their customer service is fantastic.

I’ve had good luck with Discount too. That being said I’ve also had to go back enough times that I was recognized upon arrival whenever I come back to get them to fix their work. Good prices but 50/50 on workmanship.

So it is sounding like a chain store like Discount/les schwab/big o.

I did buy at Tire Rack, but most recently I went through my mechanic. They’re a Continental distributor, so I got my DWS for maybe 5 bucks more than Tire Rack...but with no shipping costs. Net win of about 30-40 bucks per tire.

oh yeah, I noticed it.

Damn a set of staggered Pilot Super Sports for under $900. Holy Shit, I need to find someone with a costco membership!

Oh yeah, the GTO is notorious for having a strong gag reflex, which has been bugging me. The S197 will take 18x10 275/40 rubber at all 4 corners AND lowered 2 inches without rubbing. On the GTO, even with stock rubber and tires (17x8 with 245/45’s) the edges of the front tires rub at full lock.
I use
this
website to check sizing whenever I’m buying new shoes/lowering cars. It compares offset, wheel and tire size to each other.
So far, I’m planning on staggering a 17x8 with a 245/40 up front and a 18x9.5 with 275x40 in the rear. The GTO is going to be lowered eventually on coils (or maybe air bags.....????) at some point so I’m taking that into consideration as well. I just really hate the stock wheels on the GTO.

Or just get it; it’s 55 bucks... they have awesome prices on 93 octane in NJ, if you have Costco Gas too.

I buy from Tire Rack. They support a lot of amatuer motorsports, and podcasts that I listen too.

I use a local shop (which is definitely no good for you, as you probably live nowhere near me), but I save ridiculous amounts of money per side. Easily 30%. Perhaps there is a non-chain store near you? Check your local car enthusiast forums for ideas!

DiscountTire. Always. Great service, great prices, just tires, no bullshit. I’ve been going to the same one for 12 years.

Well I more-less just “fired” mine... So damn hard to find to decent help that won’t try to screw you.

I’ve also had good experience w/ Discount Tire. Free lifetime rotations, the prices are the lowest I’ve found, and they always finished their work faster than they promise.
That said, I’ve had a dealer order tires from Tire Rack and charge me what I’d pay online. I’ve also heard of people ordering at TR or Discount Tire Direct, having the tires mounted at a specialist/tuner shop, and coming out ahead in terms of the total spent. Probably depends on the specific case.

My VW dealer is, quite remarkably, competent and has competitive prices on tires. I keep waiting for VW of America to learn of these traits and to swoop in and FUCK EVERYTHING UP.

My dad’s been going to Discount since like the ‘50s. So I always give them his phone number, and they pull up his account, see how many tires he’s bought over the last 60+ years, and give me sweet deals on everything.

This is a subaru dealer and they are fairly comptent as well. Our VW dealer is on the incompetent side of things...

I do Tire Rack, in part because of selection and in part because their regional warehouse is 20 minutes away so I can save myself from the shipping cost. I have a recommended local installer do the mounting and balancing.

I order from Tire Rack and then mount and balance at NTB.
